NUCLEAR MEDICINE
Exercise/Pharmacologic Myocardial Perfusion Study
- Approximate visit time: 4 hours.
- Ask your physician about stopping beta blockers and calcium channel blockers 2 days prior to your test.
- Consult your physician before stopping any medication.
- Do not eat or drink caffeinated food/drinks (coffee, chocolate, sodas or tea) 12 hours before your test.
- Do not take caffeinated drugs (Excedrin, etc.) 12 hours before your test.
- Do not eat or drink starting 3 hours before your examination.
- Please bring all of your medications with you.
- Ask your physician about stopping diabetic medications if you are not going to eat before the examination.
- Please wear comfortable walking shoes and 2-piece outfit (comfortable shirt and pants.)
Renal Scan
- Approximate visit time: 2 hours.
- Drink 2 cups of water 1 hour before your examination.
- Ask your doctor if you must go off ACE inhibitors or angiotensin II receptor blockers 2 days before your exam.
Biliary Scan
- Approximate visit time: 2 to 3 hours.
- Do not eat or drink anything 4 hours prior to the examination.
Gastric Emptying
- Approximate visit time: 2 to 3 hours.
- Do not eat or drink anything 12 hours prior to the examination.
ULTRASOUND
Abdominal Ultrasound
- Approximate visit time: 1 hour.
- Do not eat or drink anything 8 hours prior to the examination. Take medications with sip of water.
Renal (Kidney), Pelvic, and Bladder Ultrasound
- Drink 32 oz. of water or clear liquids one hour before the test. Do not empty your bladder after drinking fluids.
Thyroid Ultrasound
- No preparation necessary.
CARDIOVASCULAR ULTRASOUND
Echocardiogram
- No preparation necessary.
Vascular Ultrasound
- No preparation necessary.
DEXA (BONE DENSITY) SCAN
No preparation required.
X-RAY
- Preparation depends on the type of x-ray the referring physician has ordered.
- The patient will be notified of the type of test ordered and whether any form of preparation is required.
- All patients will be kindly asked to remove metal objects such as jewelry, hearing aids, hairpins, Bluetooth earpieces, etc.
